Lessons from Nana: “Pretty Is As Pretty Does”

Share you lessons with us at CurtsyGirlsCBC@gmail.com.

My grandmother was a precious “Southern Belle” type, so when she spoke these words, they came out a little more like “Perty is as Perty does." I think about them often and the timeless truth that comes with them.

It is easy to get this sentiment backwards and think that using charm, grace, or makeup will make you lovely. EXACTLY the opposite. If you are pretty on the inside, it will show in your actions, and cannot be missed by others.

...Not so simple, sweet CurtsyGirls...

If you are anything like me, it is tempting to dress in a cute outfit, slick on a little lip gloss, primp up your ‘do and be pretty. It doesn’t work (trust me, I tried). Here is a good example:

Have you ever met someone who you had seen several times before and thought to yourself, “Wow! She is SO pretty!!!” but spent some time with that person later, only to find out that she is mean, gossips, acts hatefully toward her family, stabs her friends in the back, or worse? NOT CUTE!!

Keep this in mind:

Nice clothes, pretty skin, fancy stuff, good hair, or an ideal figure will NEVER make someone pretty…

CurtsyGirls Character Challenge: Be Pretty. Put your good character on display; be kind, tenderhearted, listen more than you talk, share with others, love when it isn’t deserved. Do these things and not even an acne breakout or a bad hair day can’t blacken your beauty!
